EADM Summer School 2024
LLMs in behavioral science
Advances in machine learning have led to Large Language Models (LLMs) and other forms of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can interpret and generate information at a level comparable to expert humans. Such models have tremendous value for research in the behavioral sciences; however, research is only beginning to exploit their potential.
Our EADM Summer School will expose you to the potential of generative AI focusing on LLMs, equip you with the tools to leverage LLMs for research openly and responsibly, and showcase how behavioral scientists can help study and address the ethical, cultural, and societal challenges arising from the mass adoption of generative AI.
Workshops - Two multi-session, hands-on workshops demonstrating the use of LLMs for behavioral science research and how to study the impact that LLMs and generative AI have on social culture.
Keynotes - Four keynotes by prominent researchers -- featuring Gaël Le Mens, Chiara Longoni, Iyad Rahwan, and Melanie Mitchell -- at the intersection of behavioral science and generative AI.
Talks - Four talks highlighting behavioral science research addressing challenges arising from the mass adoption of generative AI.
Project work - Two sessions in which you can work on an idea for a joint behavioral science project on LLMs or generative AI, which you can present on the final day of the Summer School.
Posters - One session allowing you to present your own work.
Social events - Two dinners and a concluding BBQ to facilitate networking.
Our EADM Summer School will take place at the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development, in Berlin.
There is no participation fee. As you will be presenting your own work in a poster, you might be able to receive funding for your travel costs from your home institution. Regrettably, we are not able to reimburse participant travel costs ourselves. We can provide refreshments during the day and dinners on three evenings during the Summer School.
We will review applications and send out acceptance notifications in April 2024.
Anne-Marie Nussberger and Dirk Wulff are organizing this Summer School with the invaluable help of Eva-Madeleine Schmidt and Taisiia Tikhomirova.
This Summer School is generously sponsored by the European Association for Decision-Making (EADM) and supported by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development's Center for Adaptive Rationality (ARC) and the Center for Humans and Machines (CHM).
